‘Dance monkeys’ by Tones and I (Toni Watson) has become the most popular song on Shazam, reported by Guinness World Records. The record was previously held by Swedish DJ Avicii for his 2013 song “Wake Me Up”.

The song has been identified 36.6 million times on the music identification app, according to Guinness. It was released in 2019. Prior to the success of “Dance Monkey”, she was relatively unknown.

“It’s a song about a moment where I felt frustrated about how people had no patience anymore. They had their phones and caught a busker that was really hot, and people wanted me to go, go, go. If you replace the word ‘dance’ with ‘sing,’ it’s pretty self-explanatory,” she told Billboard in an interview in 2019.

Her debut album is expected at the end of 2020.
