45-feet ‘ice volcano’ builds out of natural springs in Kazakhstan’s Almaty region

An ‘ice volcano’ has come up in Kazakhstan’s Almaty region that has attracted the attention of thousands of travellers who are visiting to catch a glimpse of the structure, Times Now reported. The volcano was formed over an underground stream that spilled water, which froze instantly. As it froze in a conical shape, resembling an ice volcano. 

The underground spring is located between the villages of Kegan and Shrganak in Almaty region, Kazakhstan. 

Another similar volcano had formed last year, but the shape of the newer structure is more defined, the news media reported. Its resemblance with a volcano is what is attracting the attention of locals and travellers alike, many of whom have shared pictures on social media.

It is, however, artesian water that gushes out of the ground, Times Now reported quoting a local. “In summer everything blooms here with greenery,” the local added.

In February last year a number of ice volcanoes came up in Lake Michigan in the US.
