Babar Azam, Pat Cummins nominated for ICC Men’s Player Of The Month Award

Pakistan, Australia and West Indies captains Babar Azam, Pat Cummins and Kraigg Brathwaite have been nominated for ICC Men’s Player Of The Month Award for March. English bowler Sophie Ecclestone, Australian batter Rachael Haynes and South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt were nominated in the women’s category.

The winners of the awards will be announced next week. 

Babar Azam was in some form during Australia’s tour of Pakistan. The Pakistan skipper scored 390 runs in the Test series, including a record-breaking 196 in the second match to get a draw. The No 1 ranked ODI batsman made 57 and 114 runs in the two 50-over matches. This is the second time that he has made it to the ICC Player of the Month award nominations. He had won the honours in April last year.

West Indies’ Kraigg Brathwaite scored 341 runs at an average of 85.25 in the Test series against England. The 29-year-old made 160 runs from 489 balls in the second match of the series and then batted solidly to help Windies win the third Test and the series. 

Pat Cummins led Australia to a Test series win in Pakistan. He picked five wickets for 56 runs in the first innings and recorded 3/23 in the second of the final Test. The pacer finished the series with 12 wickets at an average of 22.50.

Meanwhile, all the three women were noiminated on the basis of their brilliant performances in the recently concluded World Cup. Ecclestone took 20 wickets during the calendar month at an average of 12.85.

Rachel Haynes scored 429 runs in the eight matches at an average of 61.28 and a strike rate of 84.28. Wolvaardt finished the World Cup with 433 runs at an average of 54.12.
