Champions League 2022-23: Napoli vs Liverpool match preview
- Napoli will host Liverpool in their opening game of the 2022-23 Champions League
- Jurgen Klopp has never won at Napoli's home
- Liverpool will miss a number of key players due to injuries
Liverpool will take on Napoli in the first match of their 2022-23 Champions League campaign. The Merseyside club did not have a solid start to their Premier League campaign this season, registering just two wins in their first six matches. Liverpool have not yet won a single match while playing at Napoli’s home, with one draws and three losses since 2010.
Napoli, on the other hand, have had a positive start to their Serie A campaign, winning three out of their first five matches, and are currently second on the league table. The Italian side, however, will be able to field a healthy squad against Liverpool. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who earlier played for the Reds, can be fielded by manager Luciano Spalletti. Victor Osimhen, Napoli’s highest scorer in the previous season, can also be a part of the starting lineup.

Klopp, on the other hand, is dealing with a number of injuries. Club captain Jordan Henderson, along with Naby Keïta, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, will miss the match due to injuries.
In a press conference before the match, Klopp has pointed out the fact that he has never won at Napoli: “I have never won here…Not with Liverpool. Not with Dortmund”. On the other hand, the Napoli manager was of the opinion: “The atmosphere surrounding the Champions League is fantastic. We’ll give our all and deliver a performance worthy of the Champions League. We set out to win every game we play in.”
Darwin Nunez, Liverpool star signing of the season, can be a part of this match after coming back from a three-match suspension in the Premier League.
