Mohamad Salah, the Egyptian forward, does not want to leave Liverpool this summer, Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sports reported. However, Salah’s contract is coming to an end, and drawing up a new deal is a complex process, the ball is in Liverpool’s court for the next months. Unless the Anfield side improves the contract, the 29-year-old could leave next year as a free transfer.

The Egyptian is not currently set on going to La Liga, enjoying his Premier League football. However, his deal with the Reds gets over in June 2023 and if the situation isn’t addressed by then, Salah would leave as a free agent.

Senegalese forward Sadio Mane is already poised to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side and has been linked to a possible Bayern Munich move. The Bundesliga giants are in need of some attacking power since their star striker Robert Lewandowski has his heart set on Barcelona.

Other Liverpool players also have their contracts expiring, after which they can leave the club.

As for Klopp, he signed a new contract to remain with Liverpool and was asked if his decision to stay would impact Salah and Mane’s calls. At the time, the German coach had insisted that it was their own lives.

Liverpool had a promising season winning the FA and Carabao Cups. The Reds also gave a fantastic chase to Manchester City for the PL title, coming second in a nail-biting end to the league. However, the Champions League fixture against Madrid saw them frustrated again, losing 1-0, in a game that could have vindicated the 2018 loss to the Los Blancos.

Salah thanked fans for their support, writing on Twitter, “I cannot express in words how much we wanted to bring that trophy back to Liverpool but in the end we couldn’t”.

Klopp, meanwhile, remained sure the team would bounce back in the next season. Speaking after the CL final, he asked where the next final would be – whether it was in Istanbul – and then addressed fans, asking them to book the hotels already.
