Green Bay Packers’ Davante Adams will join the Las Vegas Raiders as a part of a five-year deal that will see the wide-reciever make a per-year average of $28.25 million and becomes the new highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

The Raiders aquired Adams in a $141.25 million contract. In return they will be sending back a first-round pick, potentially more draft selections and a player, Rapoport further reported.

“While Aaron Rodgers was negotating his contract, he knew Davante Adams would never play for the #Packers again. The situation was too far gone. Something had to give. And when Adams informed GB he wasn’t playing on the tag, talks got fired up. Now, Adams will be on the #Raiders,” Rapoport tweeted.

Green Bay, last week, put a franchise tag on Adams to prevent the two-time All-Pro receiver from becoming an unrestricted free agent. The WR will reunite with his college quarterback Derek Carr. The two played together at Fresno State.

“Adams recently purchased a house right next to his new QB,” Rapoport noted.

Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst had said last month he would prefer not to use the tag on Adams.

“It’s obviously a tool that’s made available to us,” Gutekunst said at the time. “If we need to use it, we certainly will. I think we’d love to come to an agreement before that, but it is a tool to be able to protect one of your star players. But at the same time, that’s not the way – we kind of like to exhaust all options before we get to that point.”

Adams also didn’t seem happy about the idea of getting tagged when asked late in the season.

“I’m not sure how to answer that safely right now,” Adams said then. “So, we’ll just cross that bridge when we get to it. I’ll just say that. I like to be professional on here.”

Adams earned All-Pro honours each of the last two seasons and was a unanimous selection in 2021. He set Packers single-season records for catches (123) and yards receiving (1,553) while also scoring 11 touchdowns.

He’s the only player in NFL history to have at least 110 catches, 1,350 yards receiving and 11 touchdown receptions in three separate seasons. Adams has joined Marvin Harrison and Larry Fitzgerald as the only players to have 600 catches, 8,000 yards receiving and 70 touchdown receptions over their first eight seasons.
