Borussia Dortmund have finally identified the man to fill in the big boots that Erling Haaland has left behind this summer, after his move to Manchester City

Multiple reports have claimed that Sebastian Haller, who has been playing for Ajax in the Dutch Eredivisie, is the next in line to wear the famous yellow-and-black colours of Dortmund after the German club reached an agreement with Ajax in a deal worth €35 million, including add-ons and bonuses for his signature.

The 27-year-old former Eintracht Frankfurt striker has been in scintillating form for Ajax ever since he joined the Dutch team 18 months ago. He hit the ground running, scoring 13 in his first 24 appearances for the club, before taking things up more than a notch this season- with an impressive return of 34 goals in 42 appearances, including 11 in the UEFA Champions League. He won the Golden Boot after his season-long heroics.

German Publication BILD claimed on Sunday that Haller has set his heart on a return to the Bundesliga, even turning down more lucrative offers to return to the premier league where he had a disappointing spell with West Ham.

Strikers have a history of turning into legends when playing in front of the vociferous ‘Yellow Wall’ of Dortmund- as the club has been churning weapons of mass destruction one after the other. It all started with Lucas Barrios and Robert Lewandowski, both of whom helped Dortmund on their way to the Bundesliga in 2011 as well as 2012. Lewandowski was replaced to great effect by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang whose record for Die Schwarz-Gelben was phenomenal. The next big name to continue this tradition has been the dazzling Erling Haaland– who is widely considered the next big thing in football, and had been scoring at a frightening rate for club and country before his move to Man City.

It now appears that the responsibility of keeping this romance alive shall fall on the shoulders of Sebastien Haller, who appears set to be playing this season in the backdrop of the loudest and largest terrace for standing spectators in European football.
