Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule joins Borussia Dortmund in long-term deal
- Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule has joined Borussia Dortmund
- He rejected three offers from Serie A and Premier League clubs
- He will complete the signing in summer
Dortmund announced the signing officially on its Twitter page, adding that Sule would join the club in the summer.
According to the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano, the 26-year-old German international will receive an annual salary of €10 million at Dortmund, apart from various add-ons. Romano has also said that Sule's contract with Dortmund, which runs till 2026, has an optional extension clause.
Dortmund's official announcement of their acquisition of the centre back comes a day after Sule's agent, Volker Struth, told media that the 26-year-old had made up his mind about his future.
Sule, who joined Bayern Munich in 2017 and has lifted several trophies with the Bavarian club since then, decided not to extend his stay with Bayern as he felt undervalued.
"When I started working with him, the boy tore his cruciate ligament for the second time. That’s a lot. You have thoughts and worries. I think if the club at this time or shortly afterwards, directly would have come up to us, then we would probably have had a different situation today. But that didn’t happen. You let it go. He just has the feeling that he is not valued enough. With Niklas the topic of appreciation not only to do with a large economic offer," Struth had said about Sule's decision, according to Bavarian Football Works.
When the 26-year-old's departure became common knowledge, he was linked to several major European clubs, including the likes of Chelsea, who face the very real prospect of veteran defenders such as Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leaving when their contracts run out.
However, according to Romano, Sule turned down three offers from Serie A and Premier League sides as he wanted to stay in the Bundesliga.
