India register historic 3-wicket win at Gabba, win Test series 2-1

Rishabh Pant led India to a historic 3-wicket win on day 5 of the fourth Test against Australia. India clinched the series 2-1 to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India chased down 328 in the fourth winnings at Brisbane’s Gabba.

The highest successful run chase at the Gabba before this was 236 for seven, which Australia scored to beat the West Indies in 1951.

Rishabh Pant scored an unbeaten 89 to guide India past the target. Shubman Gill (91) and Chesteshwar Pujara (56) also made significant contributions in India’s second innings.

Cheteshwar Pujara enduring many a painful blows on his body in his dogged 56-run knock that he raised with a 211-ball vigil.

Australia had won the pink-ball Adelaide Test while India struck back with victory in Melbourne. The third Test in Sydney had ended in a draw.

India had won a historic Test series Down Under two years back and now the team is cherishing back-to-back series victory.

The visitors had lost the ODI series before winning the T20 series that preceded the Test rubber.
