IPL 2021: Sunrisers Hyderabad aim to make route to play-offs difficult for Kolkata Knight Riders
- Sunrisers Hyderabad are placed last in the IPL points table
- Kolkata Knight Riders need to win their remaining matches in order to qualify
- The KKR vs SRH will be played in Dubai
Sunrisers Hyderabad, out of the play-offs race, will look to dent Kolkata Knight Riders’ chances of making it to the knockout stage when they take on each other in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match in Dubai.
SRH placed last in the IPL points table, having lost nine of their 11 matches. KKR, on the other hand, are still on the hunt for a play-offs berth. They are ranked fourth with 10 points.
Since the IPL resumed in the UAE, SRH have only won one match out of the four that they have played.
After losing five consecutive matches, they recorded a convincing victory over Rajasthan Royals. However, lost the following game by six wickets to Chennai Super Kings as they qualified for the play-offs.
The Sunrisers had dropped their only IPL-winning (2016) skipper David Warner after axing him from captaincy. This did not change the team’s fate as Kane Williamson was not able to get the best out of his team.
For SRH, batting remains their weakest link, especially in the absence of Jonny Bairstow.
In the bowling department, Jason Holder has time and again given them the breakthroughs, but senior India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Siddarth Kaul have disappointed.
For KKR, in the UAE leg, they have won three games and lost two. The former champions have to win the remaining of their matches with healthy margins if they want to make it to the top four. Venkatesh Iyer has been the star performer with the bat. He has been ably supported by Rahul Tripathi who has scored the maximum runs for the team.
The decision to move Nitish Rana up the order has also paid dividends but Shubman Gill is yet to fire at the top.
In bowling, the likes of Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine, Tim Southee have done good for their team.
