Wantaway Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku finally completed a much-anticipated return to his former club, Inter Milan, in the hopes of finding game time and form again after an underwhelming return to the Premier League last season.

While Chelsea and Inter had already agreed terms for Lukaku’s €12 million loan move to the Serie A side, the deal hinged on the big Belgian completing his medical in Milan, which took place on Wednesday.

Subsequently, the club posted a selfie video clip taken by Inter President Steven Zhang, wherein Lukaku was revealed. As the two exchanged pleasantries, a smiling Lukaku greeted fans and promised them goals in the 2022/23 Serie A season.

“It’s an amazing feeling. What we achieved here a year ago was fantastic. That goes for the team, the fans and also me personally. Inter have given me so much and I hope to do even better than last time. It’s now time to work hard as a squad and hopefully do even better than before,” the Belgian international told Inter TV after the completion of his move on Wednesday.

“It’s like coming home. My family and I were so happy here thanks to the people, the fans and my teammates. From the first day I arrived here, everyone helped me settle in. I’m very happy. I kept my home here when I went to England, so that means something. I’m pleased to be back and now I can’t wait to get out there with my teammates,” he added.

Lukaku, who broke into top tier professional football with Chelsea, left the London club in 2014 after failing to break into the Blues’ starting XI. Subsequently, the big Belgian moved to Everton, rising to superstardom there.

He was then poached by Manchester United but had a dismal two seasons with the club before moving to Inter in 2019. In Italy, Lukaku was in his best form, and netted 47 goals in 72 appearances for the I Nerazzuri, helping them to a Serie A title.
