Jonathan Taylor injury update: When will Indianapolis Colts RB return?
- Indianapolis Colts' star RB Jonathan Taylor underwent thumb surgery and is expected to miss 3-5 weeks
- Despite a strong return to form in Week 12, Taylor's injury interrupts his standout season
- Fantasy managers can turn to Zack Moss or explore alternatives like Chuba Hubbard, Samaje Perine, or Jeff Wilson Jr. during Taylor's absence
Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has been a pivotal force for the team this season, showcasing his prowess after overcoming a four-game absence on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list. However, his recent setback in the form of a thumb injury has raised concerns among fans and fantasy football enthusiasts alike.
In Week 12, Taylor delivered his best fantasy performance of the season, accumulating 91 yards on 15 carries and scoring two touchdowns, amassing an impressive 21.1 PPR points. Unfortunately, his promising run came to a halt as he is now listed as doubtful for Week 13 due to the thumb injury.
When will the Indianapolis Colts RB return?
The thumb injury prompted Taylor to undergo surgery on his right thumb on Wednesday. While the injury is not deemed season-ending, the star running back is expected to miss multiple games. Head coach Shane Steichen, in a recent statement, expressed uncertainty about the exact duration of Taylor’s absence but ruled out placing him on injured reserve, signaling a belief that the running back will return sooner rather than later.

Although the Colts have ruled out the injured reserve option, it appears Taylor will likely be sidelined for two to three weeks as he recovers from the thumb surgery. The 24-year-old had just regained full health in Week 10, boasting an 88% snap share, and was poised to finish the season strong before the unfortunate thumb injury in Week 12.
The Colts officially announced that Jonathan Taylor will be unavailable for the upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans and is projected to miss a few weeks following the thumb surgery. Reports indicate that Taylor is expected to be out for 3-5 weeks as he undergoes a UCL (Ulnar Collateral Ligament) repair in his thumb.
Taylor’s injury is a blow to fantasy managers who had been benefiting from his recent impressive performances, including a standout game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With Taylor sidelined, those who secured Zack Moss as a contingency plan can breathe a sigh of relief. Moss, who has seen significant playing time this season, had an outstanding performance against the Titans earlier, accumulating 165 rushing yards and two touchdowns, along with two receptions for 30 yards.
