Mallory Swanson Pugh, the United States Women’s National Team star, suffered a knee injury in the friendly against Ireland on Saturday and had to be carted off the field. She suffered a left knee injury after colliding with Ireland’s Aoife Mannion. She immediately grabbed her leg and seemed in a lot of distress.

She was put on a stretcher, and as she was being carried out of the stadium, the USWNT fans chanted her name. Per reports, Swanson Pugh was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The seriousness of Swanson Pugh’s injury is not immediately clear, except for the obvious fact that she was hurt.

The first half of the match ended after her injury with USWNT leading by a goal to none.

Throughout this year’s calendar, Swanson has emerged as the essential player for the USWNT, with an impressive tally of seven goals in the initial five games. The team anticipates her to form the top line alongside Alex Morgan and Sophia Smith in the World Cup, making any significant injury detrimental to the USWNT’s preparations for this summer. Swanson not only exhibits clinical finishing but also displays intelligence in making runs and has exceptional skills in carrying the ball at pace while taking on defenders.

During the game on Saturday, Swanson was subject to more than one collision, including one with Ireland’s goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan after being contacted by the same defender, Mannion. On-field medical personnel checked Swanson’s head, neck, and upper back, but she returned to the game. Swanson also revealed to reporters on Friday that she had been hit in the face with a ball during training, which caused black eye and facial bruising.
