Indian cricketer Washington Sundar named his dog ‘Gabba’, also the name of the venue where he made his Test debut in January and introduced his “four-legged” friend on social media.

It was only on January 15 that India sealed a historic win in The Gabba, despite the team being plagued by injuries and absentees. And Washington Sundar was one of the youngsters who was called up for the final test to replace injured Ravichandran Ashwin.

He had a debut to savour as he claimed four wickets with the ball, and scored a match-deciding 62 with the bat in the first innings.

All in all, The Gabba is a venue that will stay very close to Sundar’s heart after the memorable outing he had in January, and now has paid homage to it by naming his dog after the venue.

During The Gabba test, the 21-year-old kick-started his career by claiming his first wicket which was of Steve Smith. And he then picked the wicket of Matthew Wade and broke the all-important partnership of 113 runs.

He was also part of the partnership with Shardul Thakur that took India from 186 for 6 to 309 for 7 in the first innings, which proved to be the point resurrection for India in the test match.

In the second innings, India had a challenging target of 329. But a composed 91 from Shubman Gill, gritty 56 from Cheteshwar Pujara, and an unbeaten 89 from Rishabh Pant meant that India had broken Australia’s  31-match unbeaten streak.
