Los Angeles Rams receiver Robert Woods tore a knee ligament during a practice session on Friday, according to US media reports. The wide receiver has reportedly been ruled out for the entirety of the season, NBC Sports reported.

The injury news comes on the same day Odell Beckham Jr. reported to the Rams’ training complex and signed his contract. Beckham could join practice on Saturday on his first full day with the Rams (7-2), the Associated Press reported.

Woods, along with NFL receiving leader Cooper Kupp and fellow starter Van Jefferson, is an important part of the Rams’ attack as a receiver, blocker, and occasional jet sweep runner. Woods is the team’s second-leading receiver with 45 receptions for 556 yards and four touchdowns, as well as eight running attempts for 46 yards and another touchdown.

Woods didn’t know he’d hurt his knee until after practice on Friday, when a post-workout assessment showed an ACL tear. Throughout his nine-year NFL career, Woods has been a model of durability, missing never more than three games in a season due to injuries.

Woods began his NFL career with Buffalo before joining the Rams in 2017. He is a Southern California native. Woods committed to a four-year, $65 million contract deal beginning in 2022 early last season.

Woods has 367 receptions for 4,626 yards and 23 touchdowns in 4 1/2 seasons with the Rams, as well as 485 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Because the Rams were already weak at receiver, they added Beckham this week. After being dissatisfied with his lack of playing time, DeSean Jackson demanded to depart Los Angeles, while rookies Tutu Atwell and Jacob Harris have already been ruled out for the season due to knee problems.

With new quarterback Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles leads the NFL in passing offence.
