One councillor, one police official dead in Kashmir after militant attack

A councillor and a policeman died on Monday in Sopore in Kashmir’s Baramulla district in an incident of militant attack, reported news agency ANI, quoting Kashmir IG Vijay Kumar.

“One councillor and one policeman died. One councillor has been injured in Sopore militant attack”, ANI quoted Kumar as saying.

The Jammu and Kashmir police said that the terrorists fired at Municipal Office Sopore. In the shootings, police personnel Shafqat Ahmad and councilor Riyaz Ahmad died while councillor Shams-ud-din Peer was injured.

The area has been cordoned off.
