Pay Lamar Jackson: Fans troll Baltimore Ravens as quarterback misses Cincinnati Bengals playoff game at Paycor
- Lamar Jackson was ruled out of Baltimore Ravens' game vs Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday
- The two sides locked horns in the wild-card game at the Paycor Stadium
- Lamar-less Ravens offense struggled vs the Bengals
Lamar Jackson, quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, as expected, was inactive for the wild-card game against the Cincinnati Bengals at the Paycor Stadium on Sunday. The team’s second-string Tyler Huntley struggled in the first quarter and Joe Burrow and co took an early lead.
Jackson hasn’t practiced since he hurt his left knee early in a win over Denver on December 4. He tweeted Thursday that his PCL sprain hadn’t healed enough for him to play.
Last week, with Huntley out for a mostly meaningless regular-season finale, rookie Anthony Brown got his first NFL start in a 27-16 loss to the Bengals.
The Ravens went 2-2 with Huntley as the starter and haven’t scored more than 16 points in a game since a loss at Jacksonville on November 27, which was the last full game Jackson played.
Even if cleared, Lamar Jackson might not play for the team going forward this season. The quarterback and the Ravens were unable to come to terms on a new contract ahead of the 2022 season.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that Baltimore offered him a six-year contract that guaranteed him a whopping $133 million. However, Jackson declined the offer. He, as per the report, wanted fully guaranteed money on par with the $230 million Deshaun Watson received from the Cleveland Browns.
Now that the star quarterback is not playing the Ravens’ playoff game vs Cincinnati, several social media users asked the team to pay him.
“Lamar Jackson def making his point by sitting out. Sometimes you can prove your worth more by being absent,” a Twitter user said.
“Lamar is 100% not gonna be a Raven next year. They let a generational talent leave without putting any real talent around him in the WR room,” another one added.
“It’s business so ig. But Lamar has already proven he’s worth the money he’s asking for, Ravens just don’t wanna pay. If they lose him that’s 100% on them,” a third one said.
