Pretty Mischievous won the Kentucky Oaks on Friday. The horse is ridden by jockey Tyler Gaffalione and trainer Brendan Walsh.

Prior to the Oaks win, the filly had a productive run at Fair Grounds, where she won the Untapable S. and Rachel Alexandra (G2) before finishing second in the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2). She won two of her three starts at Churchill Downs last fall.

Who are jockey Tyler Gaffalione and trainer Brendan Walsh?

Tyler Gaffalione is an American jockey. He received the 2-15 Eclipse Award trophy as the country’s leading apprentice rider at the racetrack where he grabbed his first riding title. He became the leading rider at Gulfstream Park’s 2015 spring/summer meet at just 20 years of age.

Tyler’s father is retired Florida-based jockey Steve Gaffolione. Steve won more than 800 races during a 20-year career.

He was born on September 12, 1994, in Davie, Florida, USA. He graduated from Sunlake High School in 2013.

Gaffolione competed his first winner in the third race of his career on September 7, 2017, at Gulfstream Park. On May 3, 2015, he won five races on a single Gulfstream Park racecard. On July 4, 2017, he tied Hall of Fame jockey Jerry Bailey’s 19-year-old record by winning seven races on a single Gulfstream Park racecard. Guffalione won his sixth riding title at Gulfstream Park on June 30, 2018.

Trainer Brendan Walsh grew up on a small farm in Ireland that included sheep and dairy cows. He learned to ride on his childhood pony. He improved his horsemanship at the Irish National Stud and Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Kildangan Stud. He worked as an exercise rider and stable foreman for Sheikh Mohammed’s racing division in Dubai. He also at Arlington Park in Chicago. Walsh worked for 3.5 years for Mark Wallace in Newmarket, England.

Walsh is the former assistant to Eddie Kenneally. He earned his first victory as a trainer in 2012. In 2014, he recorded his first graded stakes win. He was present on the Triple Crown trail with Illinois Derby winner Multiplier in 2017.
