Ace Indian badminton player PV Sindhu bagged the Swiss Open crown by defeating Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan in the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament on Sunday.
In a match that spanned over 49 minutes, Sindhu, a double Olympic medallist, beat her Thai opponent Ongbamrungphan 21-16, 21-8 at the St. Jakobshalle arena in Basel.
In the match, while Busanan struggled after changing sides to concede a 0-5 lead, Sindhu dictated the rallies with her aggressive acute angle shots.
Despite Busanan’s attempt to keep Sindhu away from the net and putting deceptions to use, the Indian Olympic medallist managed to stay ahead, thanks to her strong retrieval skills.

Sindhu conveniently cruised to a nine-point advantage at the interval. Eventually, her Thai opponent handed over 16 match points as she struggled to hit wide and long, making the match an easy win for Sindhu.
This win is Sindhu’s second title of 2022. The ace shuttler had won the Syed Modi India International in January.

In the last edition of the Swiss Open, Sindhu was defeated by Spain’s gold medallist Carolina Marin in the final.
Meanwhile, Indian shuttler HS Prannoy, who last won the US Open in 2017, lost to Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie in the men’s singles final on Sunday.
