Rajasthan Royals captain Steven Smith has been fined Rs 12 lakh after the team maintained a slow over rate in their IPL (Indian Premier League) match against the Mumbai Indians on Tuesday night. The Rohit Sharma-led team registered a 57-run victory against Rajasthan in the match played at Abu Dhabi.

“Rajasthan Royals Captain Steven Smith has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Dream11 Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match against Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi on 6 October 2020,” a statement issued by the IPL read.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Smith was fined Rs 12 lakh,” the statement added.

Rajasthan Royals is the third team this season to have been fined for slow over-rate, after Shreyas Iyer’s Delhi Capitals and Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Coming to the match, the Mumbai Indians secured the top position in the points table after their win. Surya Kumar Yadav was awarded the man-of-the-match award for his 79-run innings.
