Some members of the Indian cricket team chose to take part in an optional training session on Tuesday night ahead of the side’s fixture against Afghanistan on November 3. Among those attending the session were vice-captain Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav.

The Indian opener was seen plying his trade as a bowler during the session while Suryakumar Yadav made his return to the nets after missing the match against New Zealand due to a back spasm.

Surya marked his comeback with a light jogging session, some fitness frills and light exercises under the guidance of Soham Desai, the assistant strength and conditioning coach. The player was carefully watched by the team’s physio Nitin Patel and strength and conditioning coach Nick Webb.

Ravi Shastri, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli were also seen discussing strategies upon the session’s culmination, according to ANI.

Virat Kohli’s side will have to win all of their remaining fixtures and hope for luck to spin in their favour. Their qualification is no longer in their own hands with Kane Williamson’s New Zealand in pole position to qualify for the next round of the ICC T20 World Cup with just one qualification spot remaining.

Babar Azam’s Pakistan was the first team of the group to book a berth in the semi-finals.

Team India were among the favourites to win the trophy before the tournament commenced but their chances of making the semi-finals are bleak given the situation they find themselves in.

Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Ravindra Jadeja and Rahul Chahar were among those who attended the session.

Leading pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami chose to rest before the next match in order to recover fully. India’s next three fixtures will be played against Afghanistan (November 3), Scotland (November 5) and Namibia (November 8).
