The Tennessee Titans revealed a pair of retro jerseys in remembrance of the former franchise on Sunday night. The team, known as the Oilers through the 1998 season in both Houston and Tennessee, will don the recognizable powder blue uniforms twice this season.

The names and numbers will be white, and the uniforms will be powder blue with red trim. The oil derrick logo from the Oilers will be on the Titans’ white helmets. The Oilers wore these uniforms from 1981 through 1998, which includes the first two seasons the team spent in Tennessee.

The Nike-designed uniform pays homage to the Oilers, who are coached by Bum Phillips, and Pro Football Hall of Fame back Earl Campbell, with “Luv Ya Blue” written inside the neckline of the shirt. Those Oilers made it to back-to-back AFC title games but fell to Pittsburgh in both of them.

“This was an original AFL team, so there’s a rich tradition there and now people are going to see this, and they are going to be reminded of this rich history,” said Surf Melendez, the Titans’ vice president and executive creative director.

It’s unknown when the Titans will wear the throwback jerseys for the first time, but it will be the team’s first home regular-season game wearing the powder blue uniforms since relocating to Tennessee. Before officially relocating to Nashville and changing their name, the Oilers chose to play in all-white uniforms when they first arrived in the state in 1997 instead of donning these jerseys.

The Titans are the newest team in the league to unveil their alternate outfits for the upcoming year. Last week, the Cleveland Browns introduced an all-white alternate uniform, and the Seattle Seahawks released a 90s-themed throwback kit.

The Titans will kick off the season against the Saints on September 10 in New Orleans. The Los Angeles Chargers will be their opponent when they make their home debut the following week. On December 17, the Titans will play host to the Texans, which might be an opportunity to don the Oilers throwbacks.
