Tokyo Olympics: China fails to secure gold on day 13, retains lead over US

Even though China, which stood at the top of the table with 32 gold medals on day 12 of the Tokyo Olympics, did not secure any gold medals on the 13th day of the competition it successfully maintained a large lead. The United States, which stands second on the table, continues to be seven medals short of being at par with China. 

However, as the third week of the Tokyo Olympics nears, the United States leads the overall medal count on day 13 with a total of 78 medals secured so far. China stands second on the table with a medal tally of 70. 

Out of the 78 medals in the United States’ bag, the gold, silver and bronze ratio stands at 25-31-22. On the other hand, China has a ratio of 32-22-16 as of day 13 of the summer games.

Day 13 has been a bittersweet one for the Indian contingent at Tokyo Olympics. While boxer Lovlina Borgohain got home a bronze medal after an unsuccessful semi-final match in the women’s welterweight (69 kg) category, the women’s hockey team lost 2-1 to Argentina. However, the team retains the opportunity to grab a bronze medal when they lock horns with Great Britain.

In the men’s freestyle 57kg category match on Wednesday at the  Tokyo Olympics, 

Indian wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya beat Kazakhstan’s Nurislam Sanayev and made his place in the finals, assuring a medal for India.

India currently stands at the 65th position on the table with two bronze and one silver medal.

Contingents from Great Britain, Germany, ROC, Japan and Australia have also dominated the top 10 list since the start of the competition. While hosts Japan have secured 39 medals so far, ROC and Great Britain have maintained their lead with 53 and 47 medals respectively, according to reports from the Associated Press.
