Tom Brady, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest NFL players of all time, has remarked that the grind players have to go through during an NFL season to “going away on deployment in the military.”

The 45-year-old Brady made the comment when he appeared on his podcast, Let’s Go, alongside co-host Jim Gray. Kevin Durant, the NBA legend, was a guest on the show. The comments were made by Brady while he speaking about the mental rigour required from top athletes to face the challenges professional sports have to offer.

Brady went on to say that there is only one way in which athletes can maintain the discipline, and that is to find out ways you can enjoy “certain moments of it”. He further added, “And the reality is you can really only be authentic to yourself”.

The seven-time Super Bowl winner further added that despite players wanting to spend more time doing something else during the season, their competitive spirit soon takes over. “…and as much as you want to have this playful balance with the work balance – you’re going to end up doing exactly what you’ve always done, which is why you are who you are”, he said.

Brady, who is currently going through a separation with his wife Gisele Bündchen, continued, “You’re going to go: ‘How the f**k do I get it done, what do I have to do for my teammates to get it done.’”

Brady was heard hurling expletives at his team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ offensive line, during the loss they suffered against the Pittsburgh Steelers. When asked about the same by Gray, the three-time NFL MVP said that it was a “bad day when there’s more F-bombs than touchdowns.”

He went on to add that he shares a great rapport with his teammates and that they know the reason behind his swearing is that he wants to motivate them and get the team “to a higher level”.
