India’s in-form batsman Virat Kohli was dismissed for 12 from 11 balls by South African pacer Lungi Ngidi. Since starting off with a 53-ball 82 against Pakistan in the tournament opener, this is the first time that the former India captain has been dismissed in the tournament. He also missed becoming the highest run-scorer in the T20 World Cup after falling short by 16 runs.

Lungi Ngidi had a dream start in the match having dismissed key Indian batsmen which included KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya, along with Kohli. Deepak Hooda’s wicket was taken by Anrich Nortje.

Captain Rohit Sharma had to depart after he tried to play a pull shot which hit the edge and went up in the air. Ngidi quickly recovered his follow-up from the delivery and ran to catch the ball. Sharma has started the innings well and seemed to be in a good form. However, Ngidi’s “golden left arm” cut the party short for the India captain.

KL Rahul misjudged a Ngidi delivery which was coming inside and ended up edging the ball for a wicketkeeper catch. His lack of form in the T20 World Cup continues as he went back to the pavilion for only nine runs from 14 balls.

India has a big task at hand with five wickets gone for less than 50 runs. A lot of hope will be pinned on Surya Kumar Yadav and Dinesh Karthik – the only two batters who remain on the pitch, as they face the formidable South African bowling lineup.
