The NFL has imposed a $60 million fine on Dan Snyder, the outgoing owner of the Washington Commanders, following a report confirming sexual harassment allegations brought against him by former employee Tiffani Johnston.

Over a year ago, the NFL appointed Mary Jo White to investigate misconduct claims against Snyder and financial impropriety allegations from another former employee. The 23-page report unveiled that Snyder sexually harassed Johnston, and the organization withheld $11 million in revenue that should have been shared with other teams, violating NFL policies.

Despite pledging cooperation, Snyder failed to uphold his promise, speaking to White for just one hour during the investigation. As a consequence, the NFL levied a substantial $60 million fine on the owner.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed that the investigation’s findings clearly demonstrated the inappropriate behavior, which does not align with the league’s values. Goodell condemned Snyder’s actions and stated that the conduct substantiated by White’s findings has no place in the NFL.

The independent investigation not only revealed instances of sexual harassment but also raised questions about the improper shielding of NFL revenues, leading to scrutiny of the organization’s financial practices.

The NFL owners unanimously approved the sale of the Washington Commanders to the Josh Harris group. While the $60 million fine represents a significant penalty, it constitutes just one percent of the reported $6 billion from the franchise’s sale.
