Cheteshwar Pujara, India’s Test mainstay, smashed his career-best List A score of 174, helping Sussex reach a mammoth 378 for 6 against Surrey in the Royal London Cup One Day Championship on Sunday.

It was the 34-year-old’s second hundred in 48 hours. On Friday, Pujara had caned the Warwickshire attack en route his 79-ball 107 albeit in a losing cause.

Against Surrey at Hove, Sussex were reduced to 9/2 inside first four overs. Then Tom Clark (104 off 106 balls) and Pujara joined forces to add 205 runs for the third wicket.

Cheteshwar Pujara, in his 131-ball stay, smashed 20 fours and five sixes. He notched his 13th hundred in the 50-over format. By the time he was dismissed in the 48th over, Pujara had nearly scored half of his team’s runs (350) at that time.

Pujara hit a six each off pacers Matt Dunn, Conor McKerr and Ryan Patel. Spinners Amar Virdi and Yousef Majid were also tonked for a maximum each.

On Friday, Pujara had slammed 107 off 79 balls. The Saurashtra batter hit 22 runs off a Liam Norwell over. However, Sussex (306) fell just short of Warwickshire’s 311-run total at Edgbaston.

Cheteshwar Pujara, after the knock, said that he felt ‘pukish’.

“I was hydrating in between. There was a time when I was feeling a bit pukish. I think it’s the weather. I’m used to playing in hot weather but it’s never enough. I was trying my best,” Pujara said.

“It was one of the best innings in the one-day format. But if it was in the winning cause, it would’ve been even better. We were not too far, I wanted to be there till the last ball, we would’ve had more chance of winning the game,” he further stated.
