Diana Flores, a flag football player from Mexico, was described as an ‘inspiration for all young girls’ by US First Lady Jill Biden. FLOTUS posted a video with the 24-year-old on social media, talking about flag football giving equal opportunities to girls and boys.

Flores is a flag football ambassador in Mexico. She and Jill Biden met earlier this week during a demonstration session of Tochito – Mexican flag football. Mexico’s NFL Director Arturo Olive Hawley, Luis Fernandez Fuentes, head of the Federal Education Authority in Mexico City, were also present at the event. 

Who is Diana Flores Arenas?

Diana Flores is a Mexican flag football player. She is 24 years old. 

A 15-second  slow motion play by Flores went viral on social media, where she could be seen smoothly passing the ball and reaching the end zone. 

Diana studied at the Tec de Monterrey in Santa Fe. She started playing on the national team when she was 16 – becoming the youngest player in an international sporting event.

She suffered a second-degree sprain and fracture two weeks before the Italy World Cup in 2014. However, she was determined to participate. Diana played a key role in Mexico’s campaign that year as the team finished fourth. 

Diana Flores got interested in playing flag football at the age of 8. She gave up her ballet classes to take up the sport. Her father was a football player. 

“When I started playing, there weren’t any children’s leagues like there are now. I was the youngest on the team. All my teammates were twice my age. I was playing with 15- and 16-year-old girls,” she said.

She, at 14, was called up to be a part of the North Penn high school team in Pennsylvania, United States. Diana also participated in the World Cups in Miami (2016), Panama (2018) and in Jerusalem (2021). 

In the latest edition of the tournament, she made her debut as captain and guided Mexico to a second-place finish.
