At only 21 years old, Jannik Sinner’s already one of the top 10 players, winning six titles. Could he be the next bigshot in Tennis?

Who is Jannik Sinner?

Jannik Sinner also known as ‘Jan the Fox’ is an Italian tennis player, born on August 16, 2001, in San Candido- a town in northern Italy, in South Tyrol, near the Austrian border. He currently resides in Monte-Carlo.

Sinner has won seven titles on the ATP Tour. He won his first title in Sofia in 2020 and added a second at the start of 2021, in Melbourne. Sinner added three more titles in 2021, winning in Washington, Sofia – for a second time – and then in Antwerp. He added a sixth title by winning in Umag in 2022. His most recent victory came in Montpellier in February 2023, where he beat Maxime Cressy for the title.

In Jannik’s latest set of victories, Sinner beats Russian Roman Safiullin at Wimbledon on Tuesday to reach his first ‘Grand Slam semi-final.’ The Italian won a four-set 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 and now will face either Novak Djokovic or Andrey Rublev for a place in Sunday’s final.

After Djokovic’s victory against Jannik at the Monte-Carlo Masters, Jannik says ‘It is tough to defeat Novak, especially at the Grand Slam’ but for Novak ‘sinner is dangerous!’ because of his powerful moves. Seeing them at the Sunday finals would be a treat.

Jannik was very much interested in football and skiing. Around the age of 8-12, Sinner was a top-flight skier in Italy and was ranked second. Yet he decided to choose tennis because he ‘enjoyed it more.’ His feature in Gucci’s documentary series called A Hero’s Journey, Jannik describes himself as someone who is ‘humble, aiming to do perfection and not scared of doing things.’
