Patrick Reed threw a tee at Rory McIlroy in disgust after being snubbed by the Northern Irishman. The incident took place on a Dubai practice range Monday.

Reacting to the incident, McIlroy said that he was well within his rights to ignore Reed. McIlroy said that he “didn’t feel the need” to acknowledge Reed. A video of the incident on Twitter purportedly shows Reed trying to speak to McIlroy on the range at the Emirates Golf Club ahead of this week’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic. However, he was ignored by the world’s number-one McIlroy.

Who is Patrick Reed?

Patrick Nathaniel Reed was born in 1990 in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from University High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He won the 2006 Junior Open Championship and also qualified for the U.S. Amateur in 2007.

He helped lead Augusta State to NCAA Division I titles in 2010 and 2011 following which he turned professional. In June 2011, he played in his first PGA Tour event, the FedEx St. Jude Classic. Reed played in 12 events on the PGA Tour on sponsors exemptions. At the 2014 Humana Challenge, Reed set the PGA Tour record for most strokes under par after 54 holes.

On January 12, 2015, Reed won his fourth PGA Tour title at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions by defeating Jimmy Walker. In 2016, Reed won the first FedEx Cup playoff event, The Barclays played at Bethpage Black.

He has nine tournament victories on the PGA Tour, including one major championship, the 2018 Masters Tournament, and two World Golf Championships, the 2014 WGC-Cadillac Championship and 2020 WGC-Mexico Championship. In 2022, he joined LIV Golf.

Reed has represented the United States in Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup team competitions. Through his performances in LIV Golf, he acquired the nickname “Captain Saudi.”
Reed got married to Justine Karain on December 21, 2012. She was his caddy for the qualifying rounds in La Quinta, California. The two have a child, daughter Windsor-Wells.
