Who was Andrew Dodson? High school football player in Kentucky dies after suffering head injury during game

Andrew Dodson, a high school football player from Kentucky, died last week after suffering a head injury during a game, according to the boy’s father Alan Dodson. Speaking to the Lexington Herald-Leader, Alan Dodson said that Andrew was running the ball in the Pulaski County football Spring Maroon and White game when he was tackled by a teammate. 

Andrew landed on the head, and even though there was nothing illegal or violent about the tackle, he still suffered a major head injury because of the way he fell.

Who was Andrew Dodson? 

Andrew Dodson was a high-school football player from Kentucky who died after suffering a serious head injury during a game. 

“He had a major surgery to relieve the pressure and has never awakened,” his father said, adding that his son was wearing a helmet during the tackle, as per the game’s protocol. However, it proved to be insufficient because of the stunted way he landed on the ground after the tackle.

“He has been fighting for his life on total life support,” his father continued, when the boy still had chances of making out of the injury. 

The hope, however, did not last long as on Monday the Kentucky High School Athletic confirmed that Dodson has succumbed to the injury. 

In a statement on Facebook, they said, “Today, we all mourn with his family, friends, teammates, and the entire KHSAA family, the loss of this young man.”
