Darius Miles, a 23-year-old Alabama basketball player, has been charged with capital murder along with another man after a woman was killed in a shooting near the University of Alabama campus. The incident took place only a few blocks away from Tuscaloosa’s football stadium.

Tuscaloosa Police captain Jack Kennedy said that Miles and his associate, Michael Lynn Davis, 20, were both being charged with capital murder because the victim was shot at while she was inside a moving vehicle.

In Alabama, “the intentional murder of a person committed by or through the use of a deadly weapon while the victim is in a vehicle is capital murder.”

According to the station, when authorities arrived at the scene at 1:45 a.m., a driver of a vehicle informed the approaching police that Harris was killed when the suspects fired into her automobile. The driver informed the police that he had fired back and believed he had hit one of the attackers.

In a press meet on Sunday, Kennedy said, “At this time, it appears that the only motive was a minor altercation that these individuals had with the victim as they were out on The Strip”.
