Officials cannot rule out the possibility that the unidentified flying objects (UFO) sighted by the United States military personnel in recent times are linked with aliens, although there is no evidence that the enigmatic aircraft are extraterrestrial, according to an upcoming government report quoted by the New York Times.

Senior administration officials informed on the contents of the highly anticipated study, according to the newspaper, were able to certify that the strange aircraft were not the result of classified Pentagon technology.

However, an examination of over 120 instances over the last two decades found no explanation for the craft’s odd manoeuvres, which include remarkable acceleration, direction changes, and the capacity to abruptly dive.

While top authorities informed the New York Times that there is no indication of alien technology behind the events, they also said that it is hard to rule out.

Intelligence and military authorities are becoming concerned that the phenomenon may be China or Russia testing with hypersonic technology, according to a senior official informed on the issue.

Officials informed the New York Times that the impending report is due to be given to Congress by June 25.

It would include a confidential annex, fueling suspicions that aliens are to blame for the encounters.

Last year, the Pentagon published films of in-flight interactions with the odd aircraft shot by US Navy pilots.

Former personnel with access to classified intelligence stoked the uncertainty even further.

“What is true — and I’m actually being serious here — is that there’s footage and records of objects in the skies that we don’t know exactly what they are,”  former President Barack Obama said last month on “The Late Late Show.”

The US military now refers to these vessels as “unidentified aerial phenomena,” rather than “unidentified flying objects,” or UFOs.
