The former White House sous chef who died in a paddle boarding accident on Martha’s Vineyard was a competent swimmer, according to videos from his Instagram profile.

Tafari Campbell, a 45-year-old chef, was seen swimming laps in a pool last year while he worked on his “endurance” training, according to videos posted on his Instagram profile. One of these videos even had the hashtag #survivalskills in it.

Years before those videos, Campbell had tweeted a picture of himself and his wife swimming in the ocean off the coast of Aruba with the hashtag “still can’t swim.”

The sudden and mysterious nature of the incident has caused people to raise questions about the circumstances of Campbell’s death. People on social media raised questions over his death despite his alleged swimming proficiency. People also claimed that Campbell wasn’t the only member of Obama’s staff that died in mysterious circumstances.

Police were first informed by witnesses Sunday night that a man, later identified as Campbell, momentarily surfaced while struggling to remain afloat before disappearing once more at around 7.46 pm.

The unnamed witness was paddling a board on Edgartown Great Pond with Campbell. When a 911 call came in from the Obamas’ house on Turkeyland Cove Road in Martha’s Vineyard, a large joint-agency search was started. At the time, neither the former president nor the first lady were at the house.

The Massachusetts State Police released a statement that said, ‘Shortly before 10 AM the body of the missing paddle boarder was recovered from Edgartown Great Pond by Massachusetts State Police divers. MSP Underwater Recovery Unit divers made the recovery after the victim’s body was located by a Massachusetts Environmental Police Officers deploying side-scan sonar from a boat. The US Coast Guard, Edgartown Fire, Air Wing, detectives, and Dukes County Sheriff’s Department were all part of the rescue mission.’
