Two individuals were shot near the Carribean Festival in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Sunday afternoon, according to police sources. The victims, both male, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital.

The shooting occurred in the vicinity of Salisbury Street and Boynton Avenue, coinciding with the 10th annual Worcester Caribbean American Carnival hosted at Institute Park.

As festivalgoers enjoyed live performances and explored various vendors’ offerings, the sound of gunshots disrupted the festivities. The event had been marked by its lively ambiance, with live performances scheduled until 6:30 p.m., and shopping opportunities until 7:00 p.m. A festive parade was also planned, intended to add a vibrant touch to the streets near Worcester City Hall at 1:30 p.m.

Despite the unsettling incident, no arrests have been reported at this time. Worcester police are actively investigating the matter, determined to uncover the circumstances that led to the shooting.

Authorities in Boston have asserted that the Worcester shooting is unrelated to the festivities. However, it casts a somber shadow over the celebrations, as a separate shooting incident occurred in Dorchester on the outskirts of the parade route for the Carribean Carnival in that city.

Eight individuals were shot, including six adult males and two adult females. While the injuries were not life-threatening, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential risks surrounding such public events.
