Covenant School Nashville shooter was ‘female teen,’ who carried ‘2 assault-type rifles and a handgun’

More details are coming in after at least 3 children were shot dead in a shooting inside the Covenant School in Nashville Tennessee on Monday. Don Aaron of the Metro Nashville Police Department said in a news conference following the incident that the shooter, who was shot and killed by the police, was a female in her “teens.”
The police are still working to establish the identity of the shooter at the moment. First responders who arrived at the scene of the crime, encountered “a female who was firing.” The shooter was fatally shot after 2 responding officers opened fire on the shooter.
It is also being told that the shooter was armed with at least two “assault-type” rifles and a handgun.

“We now know that there are three students who have been fatally wounded as well as three adults inside the school. We are working to identify those victims. Including the shooter, a total of seven persons were killed as a result of this morning’s incident at the school,” Don Aaron of the Metro Nashville Police Department said.
Aaron said the first calls came in at around 10:15 a.m. local time. The police went through the first level of the building after arriving at the scene. That was when they heard gunshots coming from the second level of the building. Aaron said that’s where police encountered the shooter.

“We can now confirm 3 children and 2 adults from the school shooting were transported to our Adult Emergency Department (2 adults) and (3 children) to the Pediatric Emergency Department at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital,” Vanderbilt University Medical Center spokesperson John Howser said. “All 5 patients have been pronounced dead,” he added
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is also participating in the investigation.
The Covenant School in Nashville is a private Christian school of students in pre-school through the sixth grade, when students are around 11 to 12 years old. According to the school’s website, the school has approximately 200 students.
