Donald Trump appoints new US Attorney for Atlanta

As another one of his attempts to stop the certification of votes, US President Donald Trump appointed a US attorney from South Georgia to additionally take charge of the Atlanta office, reported CNN. 

Bobby Christine, the US attorney appointed by President Trump is already working for the Georgia office. 

On Monday, Byung Pak, who was appointed by Donald Trump in 2017 to fill in the position of the US attorney at the Northern District of Georgia, resigned from his position. According to a memo written to the staff, the reasons for his untimely resignation were “unforeseen circumstances”.

The announcement came in after the news of a conversation between Trump and Brad Raffensoerger, Georgia’s Secretary of State, went viral. Trump was recorded pressuring the Secretary of State to “find” votes in order to change the outcome of the election in the state, reported CNN. 

According to the Justice Department, Bobby Christine, the US attorney for the southern district of Georgia, will also be taking over as the acting head in Atlanta. Christine was also appointed by Donald Trump in 2017. 

While announcing his untimely resignation, Pak expressed his gratitude towards President Trump for providing him the opportunity to serve his country and further thanked Jeff Sessions and Bill Barr, reported CNN.
