Hours after Donald Trump and first lady, his wife Melania Trump tested positive for coronavirus, the US President was hospitalised on later on Friday in where he will stay for “the next few days”, the White House said.

Trump, who arrived at the Walter Reed military hospital outside Washington, said he is “doing very well,” in a video posted on Twitter. After having not been seen in public since his announcement of him and Melania testing positive for COVID-19, the US President walked out of the White House on Friday, wearing a mask, and was airlifted to the military hospital.

In a video message posted on Twitter, Trump said, “I think I am doing very well. But we are going to make sure that things work out.”

He added, “The First Lady is doing very well.”

Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnanny said, “At the recommendation of his physician and medical experts, the president will be working from the presidential offices at Walter Reed for the next few days.”

The hospitalisation indicated an intense effort to make sure the president’s reportedly “mild” symptoms do not deteriorate.

Earlier on Friday, Trump had announced that he and the First Lady would begin their quarantine after his close aide Hope Hicks tested positive for COVID-19.

“Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for COVID-19. Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!” Trump said in a tweet.
