House ‘completely ready to go’ for COVID-19 relief package: Nancy Pelosi

Nancy Pelosi, while addressing the changes in the house, said that the US House of Representatives is “completely ready to go” in favour of Biden’s COVID-19 relief package, reported CNN. 

In her first news conference since President Biden was sworn in, Pelosi announced that the House is in committee meetings and will not be returning for votes until the first week of February.

Biden is also expected to announce his COVID-19 initiatives in the afternoon. 

Pelosi also addressed the House vote today on a waiver for Biden’s Defense Secretary nominee Lloyd Austin, expressing her confidence that after that vote, the Senate will confirm him, reported CNN.

The announcement came minutes before Pelosi accused Congress members of “giving aid and comfort” to the people who rioted in the US Capitol after former President Donald Trump incited the violence. 

She said, “I’m very pleased that we will have an after-action review that will review many aspects of what happened if people did aid and abet there will be more than just comments from their colleagues here, there will be prosecuted if they aided and abetted an insurrection in which people died.”

When addressing the impeachment of President Trump, who vacated office on January 20, she hinted that the impeachment trial would not require any witnesses, however, the final decision would be in the hands of the impeachment managers, reported CNN.

She said, “So, I, believe it or not, don’t take part in the deliberations of over, delivering and making the preparing for the trial. That’s up to the managers, but I do see a big difference between something that we all witnessed versus what information you might need to substantiate.”
