Joe Biden says right-wing Americans need F-15s to fight, not guns

US President Joe Biden said that the supporters of the Second Amendment will “need F-15s to fight America”. Biden was delivering remarks on the Safer America Plan at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania.

Biden’s address on Tuesday was largely focused on his policies and setting out strategies for the upcoming midterm elections this year. However, he used a part of it to divert attention to the Republican party’s policies.

Biden spoke out against partisan issues in the US Congress, but kept the focus on the country’s gun laws. “For those brave, right-wing Americans who say it’s all about keeping America — keeping America as independent and safe: If you want to fight against a country, you need an F-15. You need something a little more than a gun”, Biden said.

Democrats and Republicans worked together in a rare effort to pass gun safety legislation earlier this year after massacres in Buffalo and Uvalde. They were the first significant firearm restrictions approved by Congress in nearly three decades, but Biden has repeatedly said more needs to be done.  

During a political rally in the Washington suburbs last week, Biden likened Republican ideology to “semi-fascism.” He is set to deliver a democracy-focused speech on Thursday in Philadelphia that the White House has said “will make clear” who is fighting for democratic values.

Biden delivered the campaign-style speech in Pennsylvania, which became his pitstop for the third time in less than a week. Pennsylvania is considered to be a key swing state that may decide which party controls the US Congress for the next two years.

As a US senator, Biden played a leading role in temporarily banning assault-style weapons, including firearms similar to the AR-15s, which have exploded in popularity in recent years.
