US President Joe Biden will deliver a prime-time address on Thursday, according to White House officials. The speech will reportedly focus on the upcoming midterm elections. The primary elections season in the US is about to end, with only five states to go.

“He will make clear who is fighting for those rights, fighting for those freedoms, and fighting for our democracy”, the White House official said, according to NBC News. Biden will deliver the address from the Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

It is likely that Biden will speak about partisan issues of the United States Congress. These include gun control, abortion rights, mass shootings and immigration.

In his recent speeches, Biden has often brought up “MAGA Republicans”. He said, “They refuse to accept the will of the people. They embrace — political violence. They don’t believe in democracy”, NBC reported.

It is unclear if Biden will directly mention former US President Donald Trump in his address on Thursday. Biden did not mention Trump’s name in his January 6 anniversary speech, which was entirely dedicated to slamming the former President.

Why is Biden delivering the speech from Pennsylvania?

Pennsylvania is considered to be one of the most crucial swing states in modern America. The voter demographic of Pennsylvania is split almost evenly. The state has 20 electoral college votes.

Pennsylvania was also the key battleground in the 2020 presidential elections. Joe Biden secured 50% of the votes, exceeding Trump’s tally by 81,000 ballots. This midterm, Pennsylvania has two crucial positions up for grabs — the state Governor and US Senator.
