A shelter-in-place order was issued at the US Army’s Schofield Barracks and Wheeler Army Airfield in Hawaii around 2:30 p.m. local time after an armed individual was sighted on the base. The Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) is actively searching for the suspect described as a light-skinned male, aged approximately 25 to 35, standing about 5’10” tall with a mohawk haircut.

The suspect was last seen wearing a button-down collared Aloha shirt, light blue jeans, tan Nike foam shoes with a red swoosh, and a multicam cross-body bag. Authorities have not disclosed the nature of the weapon involved, and reports of shots fired have not been confirmed.

The base advised its residents to shelter in place while the search continued. Wheeler Army Airfield also implemented lockdown measures. Two public schools on Schofield, Daniel K. Inouye Elementary and Solomon Elementary, secured staff, students, and parents indoors due to the incident.
