The NTSB tweeted that it was looking into a mid-air accident involving a Rotorway 162F aircraft and an ELA Eclipse 10 at around 2:30 p.m.

The second crash in the area in the same week occurred when a rotor-wing and gyro aircraft collided over the same weekend as the EAA AirVenture exhibition. The mid-air collision between the Rotorway 162F aircraft and ELA Eclipse 10 happened soon after a two-seat T-6 Texan trainer crashed in Lake Winnebago north of Oshkosh.

Recovery attempts for the aircraft and its two occupants were still in progress as of Saturday afternoon. The collision happened close to the Asylum Bay Boat Launch, which is located north of Oshkosh on the western border of Lake Winnebago. For safety reasons, the authorities have asked that people stay away from the area.

The T-6 Texan, a typical two-seat trainer plane, was recognized as the aircraft that crashed, according to the U.S. Coast Guard’s Twitter account. Local responders and Coast Guard Auxiliary crews in the area have reported finding debris and an oil slick nearby.

According to the Coast Guard’s report, the plane was doing maneuvers when it abruptly dropped from a height of about 3,000 feet. The area’s water depth is about 20 feet, and the low visibility makes the recovery operation difficult.
