‘Not sorry or sad but angry’: Sister of Wisconsin police shooting victim

Addressing the press on Wednesday, Letetra Widman, sister of Jacob Blake, said that she is not sorry or sad, but angry and tired as her brother is struggling for his life with seven gunshot wounds. Blake was shot in front of his three children by the police in Wisconsin and is critically injured. The incident has sparked widespread protests in the city.

“So many people have reached out to me saying they’re sorry that this has been happening to my family. Well don’t be sorry because this has been happening to my family for a long time, longer than I can account for,” Widman said.
Referring to the earlier victims of police violence-Emmett Till, Philando, Mike Brown and Sandra Parks- she said that they were all her family. She also said that she is not seeking pity but change.

Blake’s father said that his son was shot seven times as if his life didn’t matter. “But my son matters. He’s a human being and he matters,” his father, Jacob Blake Sr., said.
Meanwhile, protests demanding justice for Jacob Blake turned violent as it entered the third day on Wednesday. Two people were killed in the violence that ensued.
