NYC mayor slams Hamas attack on Israel, Police presence increased in Jewish areas in NYC and LA
New York’s mayor Eric Adams criticized the Hamas strike in the Gaza Strip as a “cowardly act by a terrorist organization” because his city is home to the greatest Jewish population outside of Israel. He emphasized that the issue is being constantly watched by local officials for any threats.
Adams in a statement said, “While there is no credible threat to New York City at this time, our administration is in touch with Jewish leaders across the five boroughs, and we have directed the NYPD to deploy additional resources to Jewish communities and houses of worship citywide to ensure that our communities have the resources they need to make sure everyone feels safe.”

Police departments in the two biggest cities in the US, New York City and Los Angeles have stepped up security in their respective Jewish populations, including synagogues, in response to the recent attack by Hamas militants on Israel.
New York, with a population of 1.9 million, is home to the majority of the nation’s 7.5 million Jews. Miami comes in second with 525,000 people, closely followed by Los Angeles with 617,000.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams in view of the recent militant attack on Israel, declared on Saturday afternoon that he had ordered the NYPD to devote additional resources to protecting Jewish neighborhoods and houses of worship in the city.
The NYPD is also altering its patrol routes to include regions that are important to both Israeli and Palestinian interests. In response to the attacks in Israel, the NYPD’s Counterterrorism and Intelligence Division is still keeping a high level of preparedness and monitoring.

Hamas militants launched thousands of missiles into Israeli cities close to the Gaza Strip in an astonishing and unprecedented early morning bombardment on Saturday, a significant Jewish holiday. Several people were killed in this unexpected attack, which also shocked the nation. Israel retaliated by declaring war on Hamas and launching airstrikes in Gaza, threatening to pay an “unprecedented price” for the attack.
