Regular guy who took train to office: Gilgo Beach suspect Rex Heuermann’s neighbors react to his arrest

A Manhattan architect has been arrested by police as a suspect in the long-running Gilgo Beach serial killer investigation. Rex Heuermann, 59, was long regarded as a key suspect in the Gilgo Beach murders case, according to the reports

According to reports, detectives had been compiling evidence against him, which was recently submitted to a grand jury, which moved to indict.

According to law enforcement authorities,they found him by tracking phone calls made over ten years ago from burner phones to the victims’ cell phones. According to the source, “good, old-fashioned police work” solved the case.

The architect’s neighbors claim that he appeared “regular” and acknowledged to having a “child” since they believed the suspect in the horrifying killings had lived among them for such a long time. “I’ve seen him. He looks regular, like an everyday guy. I’ve seen him when I take my wife to the train – he takes the train to his office in the city,” 72-year-old Barry Auslander told the New York Post.

He further said, “he seemed like a regular neighbour. He grew up here. I never thought he was anything but a businessman. Average guy who had a family and went to work.”

Another neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that they were still processing what had occurred. “You don’t expect something like this to happen in a town like Massapequa. This is as suburban as it gets,” they said.

“It’s a little scary. It can be anywhere. It could be your neighbour and you would never know,” Cheryl Lombardi, who has lived down the street from Heuermann since 1989, said.

She added, “I never seen anyone come out that house. My daughter called me and told me to come out here and see what was going on. We’ve walked past it for years and I always ask myself when is someone going to fix up that house.”
