During the National Championship Air Races at Reno-Stead Airport, a tragic mid-air collision claimed the lives of two pilots. The incident occurred following the conclusion of the T-6 Gold race, as the aircraft were in the process of landing. The planes involved in the collision were identified as a single-engine North American T-6 G and a single-engine North American AT-6B.

Regrettably, both pilots lost their lives in the collision, marking a solemn moment at the air racing event. Despite the severity of the crash, there were no reported injuries among spectators or on the ground, indicating that safety protocols were effective in protecting those attending the event.

Following the incident, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) initiated investigations to determine the precise cause of the mid-air collision. These investigations are a standard procedure in aviation accidents and will aim to provide insights into the circumstances and contributing factors surrounding the tragedy.
