Amid the natural gas supply crisis in mid-western US, the energy firm with a substantial stronghold in the state of Kansas has been instructed to initiate plans for an emergency operation in addition to rolling blackouts.

The need for rolling blackout arises when the demand for electricity has to be controlled by introducing power outages in a rotational and temporary manner.

The initial plan in the state of Missouri and Kansas, where Evergy is the dominant energy-producing firm, is to block the supply for 30-60 minutes.

However, due to the dangerously extreme weather conditions in the region, the proper functionality of technical equipment can be challenging and can lead to an increased time for the scheduled outage.

Southwest Power Pool, the group responsible for the management of electrical grids in over a dozen states, has pushed the shortage of natural gas in the region to an energy emergency of level three.

With the weather condition showing no sign of improvement yet, Evergy formally requested all consumers from refraining excess use of power and controlled thermostats till the time the crisis is not resolved. That appeal to customers was part of a mandated emergency operating schedule under a Level 2 Energy Emergency.
