Thousands join procession for Riverside County deputy Isaiah Cordero who was shot in Jurupa Valley: Watch

A procession for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputy Isaiah Cordero is underway in Riverside, where hundreds of law enforcement members gathered to honor the deputy. Cordero was fatally shot in Jurupa Valley early Thursday afternoon. He was a motor enforcement deputy assigned to the city of Jurupa Valley, according to the department’s Facebook page.
Draped with the American flag, the officer’s casket was taken from the hospital and put in a Hearse where dozens of patrol cars followed.
The deputy was shot during a traffic stop at around 2 pm on Thursday while he was attempting to pull over a driver. The suspect shot and killed the deputy, setting off a manhunt and later leading to a pursuit. The incident happened near the 3900 block of West Golden Avenue in a residential area across the street from an elementary school.

After a large-scale pursuit, the suspect was shot by deputies on the 15 Freeway near Norco. The suspect did not die at the scene but was treated and transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. However, the identity of the suspect has been released.

Both deadly shootings remain under investigation. It is unclear what the suspect was wanted for when authorities initiated the traffic stop.

The Riverside Sheriff’s Association released the following statement, “We are devastated by the grief of losing Deputy Isaiah Cordero, a deputy who was a ray of sunshine in the Riverside Sheriff’s Department, a person who was dedicated to protecting others. Once again, we face a tragic reminder of the selflessness and unwavering courage required of peace officers and their families. Deputy Cordero put on his uniform daily to make a difference in his community and keep families safe. Deputy Cordero’s death leaves a tremendous hole in the hearts of so many people who had the chance to know him personally.”

Riverside county Sheriff Chan Bianco is likely to reveal additional details during a press conference at 7.30 pm Thursday.
