Tokyo Olympics: Americans in the fray on Day 15

After commencing on July 23, the Tokyo Olympics completed two weeks on Thursday. As it nears the fag end of the competition, the United States and China are for squaring off for the top spot in the medals tally. Currently, China are at the top of the gold medal tally, with a count of 34, whereas the United States occupy the second spot with a total of 29 gold medals.

However, the American contingent has bagged more medals overall, 89 in total. Out of the medals in the United States’ bag, the gold, silver and bronze ratio stands at 29-35-25. 

The United States gained four gold medals, four silver and three bronze at the end of August 4. But come Day 15 of the sporting gala, the United States team will be hoping to extend their overall lead and close down the gap in the gold medals tally.

Team USA will kick off the day’s affairs in women’s golf, Jessica Korda, Danielle Kang, Nelly Korda, Lexi Thompson will be representing the country on the course for the third round.

Coincidentally, in both women’s volleyball and basketball, the USA will contest against Serbia in the semifinals. A win would guarantee a silver or a gold medal. 

Meanwhile, in rhythmic gymnastics, Laura Zeng and Evita Griskenas will compete for the country.

Jordan Windle and Brandon Loschiavo will compete in men’s 10-metre platform diving while Brooke Raboutou will be taking part in women’s sport climbing finals. 

The country will also have an opportunity to increase their medal tally when Keyshawn Davis competes in the men’s lightweight boxing semifinal and Robyn Stevens takes part in the women’s 20km race walk final.

In athletics, Maggie Malone will compete in the women’s javelin throw final. Grant Fisher, Paul Chelimo and William Kincaid will represent the country in the men’s 5000m final. While Cory Ann McGee will take part in the women’s 1500m final.

Gable Dan Steveson will fight out for the gold medal in the men’s freestyle 125 kg wrestling final.
